As an experienced photographic artist I know at the time of capture when I’ve succeeded. But in.the case of these sand dunes along with the layering of the mountains and clouds it was far more than just capturing a sense of being there. This is an image that communicates many things. In spite of the unusual freezing temperatures I couldn’t resist the soft light of the overcast skies. This rendered the shape of the dunes barely perceptible with soft flowing lines. These are mirrored by the mountains and layers of clouds. I knew it would be difficult to print but this image embodies what I saw in my mind’s eye when I captured it. I limited the emphasis to the foreground dunes allowing the subsequent background layers to augment the sense of tranquility and restfulness.
