I wanted an unobstructed view of the San Francisco Peaks where you could see all of Humphreys Peak and the whole caldera. I drove on dirt roads until I ran out of road and then hiked to this spot with a pond in the foreground. I returned a few times to find the right clouds in the sky. The clouds were moving fast and the sun was setting so I shot quickly to take advantage of the optimal combination of lighting and cloud position.
